Speakers gone quiet

I recently installed a new mobo on my PC. Since doing that the sound from my speakers is much quieter than it was before. All volume settings are set to max and all drivers are installed and working correctly. The sound is not so low that it can't be heard, but its a lot quieter than it used to be. Anyone have any idea why it might be doing this? TIA

You've probably checked these already, but...

Dive into the BIOS and see if there are any sound specific settings you need to change,

Make sure you've downloaded the latest drivers from the manufacturer's website (don't rely on the CD drivers or OS drivers - go straight to the source and get the latest, super-duper ones),

If on Windows, go to the Sound applet in Control Panel and make sure the volume is cranked up high there (it's an easy place to overlook when the system tray has its own volume control)

thanks, all volume controls are set to max, including in the sound effects manager, and everything is as it should be in BIOS. I've now downloaded the latest and greatest drivers from Realtek and nothing is making a difference. Someone suggested that my mobo doesn't have as much pre-amp output voltage as my previous mobo and that i would need a pci sound card to improve it.
