This is displayed on one of my company machines when it boots instead of just windows. I did some checking and this was a codename for Windows XP like Longhorn is for... (well whatever they name it).

Why is the XP codename displayed on a computer that was purchased WELL after XP was released? It's an HP machine, so it's not like it came from a shady source either. Came right from HP.

Any ideas? The employee swears he installed nothing.

Whistler was displayed if you installed a beta build - some of the last betas could be upgraded to the release version, why a PC shipped directly from HP would have been configured that way is a mystery.

YOu can still see Whistler mentioned in the final version of XP. I forget where, but it's somewhere they forgot to update.
