There have been some great informative threads here on the software we prefer for our forums - I've been using phpBB for over a year now after moving my group away from Yahoo Groups - I'm happy with it at this stage. But because of the amount of plaudits I've seen lately here for SMF I'll be keeping my eye on that too.

That said, support is a big thing in deciding which software to use, and I can't imagine there being anything approaching the support group that's available to those who use phpBB. If you submit a clear and concise question there you get an answer within minutes most times - awesome! That's one of the things I'll be watching for at SMF as it grows.

I've been using phpBB for almost 3 years now, no problems so far. I'd definitely agree with you on the support that phpBB provides.

With phpBB 3 around the corner, I can't think of any other open source bbs than phpBB.
