Using a blog to create business web traffic

Is creating a business blog for my B2B website a good idea?

I'm the owner of a business who is fairly new to blogging especially for business.

I've had an idea that creating a blog on my website could be a way to get traffic to my site and also add value to new and existing customers.... is this the case?!

The blog would be focused on small business' use of technology to increase sales and customer experience. Has anyone experience of this? Is it a good thing to do? and what software can anyone recommend?

Any thoughts would be most appreciated.

Adding a blog to a business site can work well - it makes it easy to add new content, it personalizes the site, and, to some degree, establishes the blogger as an expert.

Wordpress has a lot of fans here and is free; MovableType is well regarded, but isn't free.

Its a good idea for the reasons mentioned before. I would encourage you to think of something else as well, are there any other functions that you can add that either to your blog or to the site as a whole?

People are going blog crazy and even my cat seem to have one. Its pretty much to ask but its always nice to come up with something new.
