The "hidden" features of your forum software

With every new release of your forum software (eg. vBulletin,phpBB,Invisonboard etc..) comes a load of new features, gadget and possibilities. However there are right now so many, that a gem is easily overlooked.

Just today i found a feature on my Invisionboard i had no clue existed, it stops showing avatars, uploaded images and signatures for people that are not logged in. You can do that by going the Management menu in your Admin Control Panel and selecting under Users and Groups "Member Settings". There you can set under "Guest Default Options" everything to "No".

I wonder what else am I missing, (i also manage forums with vBulletin and phpBB), it would be interesting for people to share those little, sometimes hidden features that makes live easier to manage your forum.

So, by what feature you recently discovered were you thinking "If I only knew that earlier"

It would certainly be easy to miss a feature - the "options" settings in vBB fill a few dozen screens, and the total admin menu is gigantic.

One thing that I did on my first vBB install was go through the options list line by line at the time of installation. Then, a couple of months after I had become familiar with the board operation, I went back through the list again. Most settings I left the same, but there were a few features I enabled or disabled based on the experience gained in the first months of operation.

we can save bw with that option not to show anything to guests,
but i know it already.

one good feature i liked in 2.1.3 IPB is, adding links at top navigatio.
by logging to admininistration page, we can do that, if anyone wants...i can tell you in detail
