Do certain demographics work better with forums?

Curious as to how age, race, gender, income, etc affects forum usage

Hello all and thanks for helping out.

I'm thinking about creating a forum but am curious as to what types of people use forums the most. Has anyone who managed a forum done any data mining and noticed a certain group of people use their forums?

I'm sure the forum topic weights heavily on the type of people who use it but I'd like to see what people have found.

if you think about it, forums are quite inaccessible places to people who've not come across them before. Think about all the new jargon they're bombarded with - often several words meaning the same thing (forum, bbs, message board) or words with dual meanings (e.g. forum)

In my experience the demographics depends almost totally on the niche, with a modicum of experience with the Internet, and cheap internet connections (always-on solutions almost exclusively) being the only factors common to all forum users.
