Hi,

Hope I got the right forum for this. I wondered if any of you would be able to help me locate an affordable solution to my problem.

Currently, we have developed a (mainstream) site where people can sign up and broadcast their webcam and we would like to add chat to that.

I don't really want to subject the users (who I have found not always particularly tech savvy) to the realms of IRC, and I don't want a 'server pull' solution (i.e. refreshing pages etc) to minimize load on the server. Also, ideally I don't want it to be Java based because I believe Flash has become a neater solution and installs easier for first timers than telling them they have to go to java.sun.com!

I have done a similar thing to what I want in the past with Volano chat, but as this is Java based, I am looking for alternatives.

Basically, if you imagine each user of the service has a 'homepage', whenever someone drops in to that homepage, the chat application will ask for a nickname and put them into chat for that particular user (i.e. one room per user of the service) The user of the service would be able to log in to their user area (as they do at present to check stats/edit profile etc) but be able to enter the same chat application as the moderator of their channel, so they can kick people out of their room, etc.

I have yet to find a neat solution without buying myself a book on sockets/flash MX and writing it myself, which clearly, I can't be bothered to do!

Any ideas? :)

Thank you!

Is not very clear what kind of solution are you looking for: a free one or something for $$$? How much do you expect to spend for such app?

Sorry I was unclear - I would definitely pay money for this solution, but not the $$$$'s some companies seem to want for more than x numbers of users... I need a flexible system, packaged as is, without any hidden costs.

We bought the 123Flash Chat program and are very pleased. It is pricy but the response from our users has been phenomenal, and we recieved enough donations to cover the cost of the next upgrade.
