Why do mails sent from my forum get into bulk mail/spam mail folders?

Hi,

I have recently started a forum. When users register in my forum the mail sent with the link for activating their registration gets into bulk mail/spam mail folder available in their email sites.

What should I do in my forum to avoid emails from my forum being filtered as spam mail?

Appreciate responses.

Thanks in advance,

Just about every forum operator has this problem. Every mail service or spam filter has its own algorithm, and you might find that totally different things are tripping it for different services.

If you can, use a spam filter that will tell you how it ranks a message for spam potential to evaluate your message. Maybe "click here", for example, bumps you a few points. Change the wording from the "standard" email just in case the standard email itself has become problematic. (Lots of users tire of notifications, for example, and rather than cancel them they just flag them as spam.)

If specific services seem to have a problem with your mail, contact their abuse department. AOL, for example, blocked one of my forum's emails for a while because of a DNS issue. If your server is identified as an open relay that can be problematic. Or perhaps several of their users routinely flag your mail as spam.

Good luck!
