IPB Hosting

A client of mine operates an Invision Power Board Hosting service (free service), and uses the old free version of IPB (the one with little or no limitations) to distribute.

She is wondering if this is still legal. I cannot find anything about it on the IBP site, so I am wondering if anyone here has some insight. Thanks!

This isn't a legal opinion... but I'd guess that continuing to use the old version under the license that was in effect when it was obtained would probably be OK. It's possible, of course, that the original license allowed the developer to change the terms of use, and that the developer did change them for the old version... but I'd guess they are primarily concerned about the current version.

If your client is concerned, she should contact the software company for a definitive answer. (Or, you could contact them anonymously if she's concerned about existing exposure.)
