Hello all,

We are looking to build a secure portal for each of our clients, where they would have to sign in to access particular parts of information and downloadable plug-ins etc. Held within this forum we would like to have a news forum with information related to all our clients and some only applicable to one or two. FAQ's again with global and individual access. Online support with many more things that a comprehensive forum should have.
I have been assigned this task of sourcing an application builder and appropriate architecture, and would really appreciate your help as this is a completely new area to me.
I have been given one pointer already for the BEA Weblogic Portal builder that has a cost attached to it, from this you can see we are open to most suggestions free or costs attached.
Any help you can spare is gratefully appreciated.

If low/no cost is important, perhaps you could marry a couple of products - an open source forum for your global info and discussion, and a collaboration program like phpCollab for your private areas.

Or, depending on the number of users you have to plan for, you could do the whole thing in a forum by setting up different user classes for each client. That would really be an inelegant workaround, though.

You might try portal hunting at hotscripts.com or similar sites, although you may have to sift through a lot of programs to find one that addresses your needs.
