Newbie need your help here. Since I am brand new to this industry, I have few questions don't where I could ask. so, just give a try here.

I am thinking about open a public forum just like this one but talking about something about sports.

My question is: How is board like this generate their income to maintain the site? Does affiliate program such as CJ will accept this as a site?

Where do I get trffic for the borad besides SEO, trade link with other similar site?

I do have few more question but I think this are the most important things that I would like to learn first.

Thanks,
Anne

HI rosyanne and welcome to the forums.

There's a thread here on the monnetization issue:
[webmasterworld.com...] but that's a way in the future if you're just starting up!

From my limited experience you need to be able to put in a lot of time yourself at the beginning to seed content and reply promptly to new users.

Good luck

Welcome to WebmasterWorld, Rosyanne. Check the Community Building Library [webmasterworld.com] for some ideas on how to grow traffic when you are first starting out.

Be aware that monetizing a forum IS difficult, but before you think about monetizing it you'll have to get volume to a fairly high level. Whether you are running CPM ads, CPC ads, or affiliate links, your revenue will depend on unique visitors and pageviews (along with other factors). Sports forums probably offer some good opportunities for promoting tickets, fan merchandise, etc. Good luck!
