Weirdness in spam filter

Now catches legitimate and well established newsletter

Some time ago the spam filter in Gmail suddenly began catching a newsletter that I had been receiving for several months without any problems. I click the "not spam" button, but the filter keeps repeating the mistake.

I had the same problem with another newsletter long time ago. Out of the blue Gmail began filtering a newsletter that was very well established as legitimate for my account. After a couple of months the problem disappeared.

Anybody else seen this weird behaviour?

And can someone offer an explanation? I'm not surprised to see false positives. What intrigues me is that the filter can accept a newsletter for several months and then suddenly begin tagging it as spam.

The sad thing is that when you unmark messages that GMail thinks to be SPAM - the system DOES NOT learn to recognize them properly...

Yes, I've come across such behaviour. Seems strange, because most SPAM filtering systems at the moment are intellectual, but GMail's one seems not yet :)

I am getting a ton of spam in my regular inbox - the spam filter used to be great,,,but now is pretty bad.

I just received said newsletter and this time it did not go into the spam folder. Seems that once again Gmail's spam filter has found out of solving the problem it created for itself some months earlier.
