My Gmail notifier seems to show that on some days Gmail may be down many times but always only for a short period. I believe it has been like that from the beginning. After all it is still in beta.

Definitely. I use gmail heavily - 1 standard account and 1 gmail for domains account. I generally find that it's down one average once a day.

Gmails seems to be letting a lof of spam messages into the regular email box now - I've seen a huge increase starting yesterday.
