Forum Moderators: open
Why? That made me very mad actually.
The reasoning is likely to be the same as blocking hotmail and yahoo and other free email accounts.
Unlike email acccounts directly with ISPs, the board owner cannot easily trace them back to a person.
Which means the freebie accounts get used by board spammers, doing URL drops and other extra-to-TOS activities.
The downside for the spammer is, at worst, the loss of a free email account.
Of course, blocking freebie email addresses does not alone stop board spammers. But security is build in layers, and for some boards, it is a necessary layer.
Which is a reflection on the sad state of the Internet.
Why? That made me very mad actually.
First thing to realize about this place is there's a good reason behind everything. This is undoubtedly the best webmaster forum online and it got that way by incredible forsight on the part of Brett and his moderators. There have been several things about WW in the past that I thought was poor policy, but after hearing explanations, they made perfect sense and I could only admire the mind that thought of it all.
They say Brett even has a good reason for not using CSS much on the site, but I must say that's one area where the explanations don't quite make sense to me... ;)
