I thought the google quit giving invites away, but google just gave me four invites. Has anyone else gotten invites lately?

I deleted several posts from people seeking or offering Gmail invitations. From the Gmail charter [webmasterworld.com]:
Off limits topics:

Gmail invites or requests.
Gmail general discussions.

Please keep it on topic folks.

DaveAtIFG-

I understand that we are not allowed to offer or ask for gmail invites, but is talking about gmail invites alright? Thanks in advance, and keep up the great work!

I gave out 2 of my invites the other day, only to come back today and have them given back! I had 4 now I have 6.

In terms of advertising (keeping this thread on-topic!), it is certainly important that the number of Gmail users is increasing.

Like everyone else, I've been bombarded with more invites than I know what to do with, but is there any way of knowing approximately how many users there are? I mean, they started out with about 2000 users, and there have been several bouts of invites sent out - can we extrapolate from that the potential audience? Can anyone who was in from the beginning can say how many invites they have been given?

Does seem that more and more invites are being sent out. I get the feeling the more people I invite the more invites I receive. Like Mike, first 2, then 4, now 6 - and the invite banner is more prevalent now in blue stretching the full width of screen - a new 'recruitment drive'?

It took me a long time to find the invite listing in the blue bar. I don't think that it's terribly prominent there.

Well, I've had an account for about a month and I've had 14 invites offered to me. A friend of mine had it for a long time and at the beginning he got them 2 at a time instead of batches of 6 like now.

I apologize for causing any problems. I should have read more posts before requesting any Gmail invites.
