Breaking News: Microsoft earthquake protects software.
Redmond (Associated Press)

MSN Instant Messenger becomes the first software to be equipped with Microsoft's new earthquake protection. Simply hit the "Nudge" button repeatedly during an earthquake, and the conversation window will remain in focus.

Not much use if you have take shelter under the desk. (Is that still the advised procedure in a eartquake?)

Great news. Such a simple solution to downed lines, power outages, fallen ceilings, and other earth moving IM irritations.

I understand that a new shift+End asteroid protection program is in beta. Apparently it launches nearby chairs to deflect by impact. Still having a minor problem determining chairs without occupants...some employment opportunities have recently occurred...

Gotta love the vision of those Redmond folks.

olwen, you are thinking of the nuclear bomb attack :-P or possibly tornado.

I never really understood why they use to tell students to get under their desk during a nuclear bomb attack... get under your desk so something won't fall ontop of your dead body!

I've been in a few fair-sized quakes. The biggest, people above the 8th floor had TVs and monitors rolling off their desks. I'm closer to the ground, so all we had were tons of smashed dishes and a few fish sloshed out of the tank. After that big one, we had dozens of aftershocks strong enough to wake you up.

What I'd like for earthquake software is auto-save / auto-backup-to-external kick in with motion sensors.

I don't think I need an anti-shake for chat.
