"The cost of such a system would not be small. A computer with a multi-billion character storage capacity will cost $4 million or $5 million, exclusive of remote terminals."

Yep, a computer that can be bought for a thousand Euros today would have cost the entire global economic output for a year in 1969.

Of course, my computer still won't make me coffee in the morning, or wash my dishes, do my laundry, cut my firewood, supply me with cold beer, fix my Jeep, or a lot of other things that would sure come in handy.

What did they say about robots in 1969? I could use a few of those. I bet we were supposed to have them by now.

... and what about all those monorails carrying people with funny collars and belts around the city?

Hi,

Well in London we have the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) with its (mainly) driverless trains, stuffed chock full of people in business attire (which I've always considered fairly bizarre and outdated).

Don't know about the collars though, I can't remember since the brain implant... B^>

Hi,

(Another thought...)

I note however that my newer washing machine(s) take longer and longer to wash the same amount of laundry, albeit with less electricity and water.

A 200GHz machine that would get my washing done in 5 minutes would be welcome!

Hi,

Well, have you actually been on the DLR? After that, who needs an Orgasmatron? B^>
