Hi,

Not sure if this is an easy problem to diagnose, but this morning I have been unable to get to the adsense login page, the amazon associates login page, even the control panel accounts on my web sites. The only constant is that any page with https at the start just responds a page not responding...

This seems to be happening in both the latest version of Firefox and IE6. I've tried restarting the router and modem, restarting computers (both computers on the network have the same issue), without luck.

Any suggestions as to what might be causing this?

D

Thanks for the tip.. i've been working on this all day but came to the conclusion that it must be the service provider. I've even gone so far as to reformat and reinstall windows from scratch.

Last night it seemed to be working properly, but again this morning it has stopped working. The service provider recommended running the following commands but they have made no difference in my case:

regsvr32 softpub.dll
regsvr32 wintrust.dll
regsvr32 initpki.dll
regsvr32 dssenh.dll
regsvr32 rsaenh.dll
regsvr32 gpkcsp.dll
regsvr32 sccbase.dll
regsvr32 slbcsp.dll
regsvr32 cryptdlg.dll

I'll have to keep my fingers crossed they fix whatever the issue is and i can check e-mails again! :(

Cheers anyway,

D

Does your browser [1] connect directly to the target pages, or [2] are you using your ISP's proxy services?

Check your browser's settings ("SSL connection"), and if [2], in case your ISP has screwed his proxy config try [1].

Kind regards,
R.

Your firewall software auto-updated, maybe?

OK, I did a system restore back to Sunday a.m. Cleared up my problem.

Nice one Lawman, glad to hear you got it sorted.

Thank you for the suggestions. I wish I could say I've been able to fix it but there's been little change. I've tried connecting directly to the cable modem, and through a router, and don't use any proxy settings.

I'm convinced now that the problem isn't within the pc.. i reformatted, reinstalled windows, updated to service pack 2...

There's also a laptop my brother uses, which when connected on the network, or directly to the router, displays the same issue.

I can now see *some* https sites.. for example the adsense login page, and gmail... but others, such as the amazon.co.uk associates login page, simply fail to load. Any of the https pages on my sites also fail, even though there's an up to date ssl cert.

Did a swathe of certificates stop working this week? Or could my ISP just be doing something wrong? :)

I'll keep at them and if I learn anything of use will report back.

Looks like the isp solved it... if only they'd been honest/informed enough to let me know they were aware of the issue, rather than blaming my setup. :)
