Floppy recovery

anybody got any tips on recovering data from floppy disks.
friend of mine has a number of important documents on floppy, ive tried an version of drive rescue but all files appear corrupt, any ideas, mostly word files!

What's a floppy disk? ;-)

You could try BadCopy Pro. They have a free trial version so you could test it before you buy. Also it does not write data to the disk, so you do not risk anything.

Sad--though true--story from my past as a telephone internet-support guy:

A university student phoned up to ask for help with files saved to his floppy disk, which he could not now seem to access. There was a vague connection to the internet, since he had re-formatted his HDD due to problems with internet connections (had wanted to start from scratch). His final year thesis was on the HDD prior to computer recovery, and he had checked when saving the files that they could be re-read.

Wanting to help a fellow human being in difficulty, I asked some obvious questions. After a minute or so it began to seem that he had saved several tens of meg to the disk...

Yup, the floppy was full of (Windows) short-cuts...

Best bet initially is to try several drives. In particular, try the drive that created the disks (if it is available). In my experience, Teac drives are probably the best with Sony's being either very good (in second place) or very bad.

Badcopy Pro works like a charm. Some people just won't switch from floppies.

best program i have ever used to recover floppies, and files from hard drive is drive rescue. Its completly free! im not plugging it its quite an old program but works like an absolout charm, search google for drive rescue 1.9 , think the program was bought by mcafe or norton!

cannot remember how many peoples lives ive saved with this prog!
