From the Daily Telegraph.

Alarmin evidence that Father Christmas died in 1564 has turned up in the records of a country church.

Father Christmas was laid to rest in the village of Dedham on teh 30th May 1564, so if you take your kids to see him and doesnt look to well or smell overly fresh, you know the reason.

No, he's still dead and so are Elvis, Roy Orbison and several others that some people claim they have seen from time to time ... but his legend and epic good works live on. In actual fact it is his young American cousin, "Santa Claus" who took up the reindeer reins ever since his death. I think Santa's alter ego is actually Tim Allen! [timallen.com] :)

So... rumours that he died in the fourth century were exaggerated, then?

Very much so.
