I can't remember when i actually had a "lunch break" it normally involves a sandwich in front of the pc and maybe a browse on the net.

I'm sure i should have more of a break but i just seem to get distracted in the afternoon if i wander off during lunch.

What are other peoples habits?

Maybe you only work 9 to 5, so a lunch break is not that important to you.;)

Come to France ..almost everyone here has 2 hours and some in the civil service ( fonction publique ) take the rest of the day ..habitually ..

Most shops are closed during 12.00 til 14.00
Most businesses like wise..

Our economy is a basket case held up by EU agricultral funds..

Most people drink alcohol during their lunch break so are next to useless and dangerous on the roads after ..

They begin again at 17.00 hours!

Some start at 07.00 am ( the guys who drive the rubbish collection trucks for the local "city hall" have usually had 2 or 3 somewhere in a bar with their coffeee and their mates )..before they get to work ..as have most artisans who work outdoors ..

We have Europes highest road accident death figures ..and they only count those who die within 3 days of the accident!

Back to lunch ..

Me ..I take the time it takes to read some emails and to eat lite ..about 15 to 30 minutes ..

Dinner however can take a couple of hours to fix ..and the same to eat .. and drink ..

I take like an hour off for lunch, but I'm guessing the effective time you actually relax is closer to 20-30 minutes.

Calls don't stop at lunch, and I often do non business related stuff during lunch as well, like shopping.

Since I moved out of my home office my wife packs me a lunch - and she packs a *great* lunch. About 9:30 I'll have a look to see what surprises she's given me today. Then I'll start with my veggies and dip. Then the cookies look interesting. Then the fruit. By 10:30 I'm eating my sandwich and by 11, my lunch is gone.

So I don't take a lunch break :).

Well typically my lunch hour(s) depend on how busy work is. I'm a web developer/production for a news paper. When it isn't busy...a typical lunch hour is a run to a restaurant, maybe Chinese. A trip to a few stores, some pawn shops (we love to look at the usless crap), sometimes to a fellow friend/employee's house to play some MTG.....ya we're nerds. Mid-20's neeeeerds...

So basically on a slow day/week...we take like 1 & 1/2 hour lunchs...sometimes just don't even go back to work (if it's cool with management of course).

Now on busy days? ha....we stop at the corner store and load up on munchies and work for 15 hours straight....occasionally going to the bathroom...consuming WAY too much caffene...so...no lunch hour.

Take today for example...we're going for pizza...we're dead...haha....

I wish my partner packed me lunch.

I think because i work a 9-5.30ish it doens't require lunch break as the office never stops. I love the way the spanish/italians/french work things but it doesn't seem to go with good business sense.

On a recent trip to italy we stoped at a 24 hour garage to discover they close every day between 12 and 3!

Lunch? Isn't that something people in other industries have?

My current day job: 8:30am to 4:30pm with 1 hour for lunch and two 15 minute breaks. Overtime is available and always paid. Guess what? I work for a (provincial) government agency! I'm not at work today because I am supposed to be on strike, but I'm striking over the fact that there's a strike, by not striking. Makes sense?!

The JD Inc. lunch:

Shuffle downstairs, prepare a bowl of oatmeal, add milk and salt, shuffle upstairs and eat while working in front of computer. Yum yum.

If I worked someplace that required 8 hours of work per day, I wouldn't want an hour for lunch. I'd rather it be shorter.

Being longer just increases the time in my daily life that they control, and I've never been in a position where lunch was paid for.

Go off to the food court in the shopping centre for about 30 minutes. Worst is the Barcelona office, cannot get any work done between 1-4 because people on their lunch breaks.

8-4
Two 15 minute breaks and 45 for lunch.

Allthough, everyone takes two 30 minute breaks and an hour for lunch.

I have a pretty liberal lunch "hour" and spend most of it at the dog park each day so I can be outside with the dog while the sun is out. Then I usually pick-up something before heading back to the office and eat there.

I do now make sure I have an hour off and away from the office - I go do the bookies and watch the racing.

Working by myself but not at home I don't have anyone to eat with. So typically I go anywhere that has some sort of entertainment. TV, newspapers, attractive wait staff, etc...

There is nothing worse that going some place to eat by yourself and just sitting there staring at the wall.

Length of lunch, usually short...45 min.
