I am OK with a 32' LCD or a 42' Plasma.

So, after 3 months I am happy with LCD, if that is any help. I do not regret the purchase.
Really solidly made, with integral USB ports, and a stand with built-in cable tidy, landscape / portrait mode, 180 deg rotation, and great height adjustability. Excellent picture quality, too, and nary a dead pixel.
Have to upgrade our cable service for HDTV which adds about $13 per month. Then we'll get about 13 HD channels for now.
Haven't seen thing in HDTV yet until the cable guy comes Tuesday, but conventional stuff looks great. Watched a 1930's B/W musical DVD tonight and home movies yesterday. Everything looks better.
Once you get HD, you will never go back. I find myself watching the most random stuff sometimes, simply because it is in HD.
On an unrelated note, I don't think women appreciate HD at all. I don't know how many times I have walked into the living room and seen my wife sitting there watching a program on the non HD channel when all she has to do is switch up one channel and she could be watching the same thing in HD. I will tell her to switch it to HD and she is always just like, "I'm fine watching it here". Drives me nuts.
My father-in-law has a 32inch lcd - that looks it has a mild case of the jaggies all the time. Too slow of a response time I think.
I have a pair of 21 inch gate way LCD wide screen monitors on my work box. They are such an awesome picture - hd ready - they remind me of the plasma.
