Does anyone out there have any tips, tricks, etc to ensuring that you get your work done? I have so many ideas but all I seem to get done are website plans or small configuration changes.

When I start work in the morning I open the "todo" file I have on my Desktop and write down what I want to get done this day. I estimate the time for each task and do not write down more than I can do.
Then I forget about the list and get stuck in routine work or reading on webmasterworld or my favorite newssites and wonder why I have achieved nothing again ...

I keep a running list throughout the day and add to it as new ideas or tasks come to mind. It's handwritten and hangs from a plastic clip just to the left of my monitor. As the day progresses, the list grows. Items I consider priorities get stars or underlined or sometimes both. In the mornings when I finish with email and any other "can't wait" tasks this list serves as my starting point for the day. It certainly doesn't ensure a successful day but after years of working this way I'd pretty much be lost without my little list.

I write down the top 5 things I want to get done in the day, and chastise myself anytime I vary from the list. Email, random surfing, posting at WW.... I have found the key is to get back on track as quickly as possible, and having the list helps a lot.
