I need to translate shopping in spanish. Google translator translates it as "compras". But the reverse translation of "compras" is "purchases".
So, is it correct translation?
"shopping in spanish" = "compras en espanol"
Thanks Saurabh

You need to describe the context in which you want to use the word.
ir de compras
is to go shopping
So voy de compras, vas de compras etc.
is I go shopping, you go shopping...
But are you looking for a verb or a noun?

Thanks.
I am looking for a verb, a one word translation of the act of shopping - "shop". Not shop like "store".
So, can I safely say that "cpmras en espanol" means "shop in sanish".. i.e. like
"read in spanish", "talk in spanish"..
just like that "shop in spanish".
thanks sdani

As Ronin suggested, you need to be a little more precise. Shopping in Spanish = Comparando en Espaņol
But maybe that's not what you mean. There is the difference between translate and interpret....

Hoo boy! Better tread carefully here! I remember having a new Mexican girlfriend who invited me to Thanksgiving dinner, with her parents who spoke VERY little english. I tried a crash course to learn a few Spanish phrases, by asking my co-worker to translate a few written phrases. I abandoned the effort over the en-yay character... the n with the tilde over it. My co-worker fell over laughing when I tried to say my sister was 26 years old, as the same word without the little tilde over the n has a substantially different meaning! A simple linguistic mistake could mean a social disaster; imagine it affecting your very livelyhood!
I plan to offer a spanish ecommerce site someday, but not until I can speak fluently myself!
