Anyone mess around with USB webcams?
I'd like to connect one directly to my tv-vcr, and run it on its own powersource too, all independent of the PC. I know I can get a pinhole or dome camera for like $30, but I thought I might as well have some fun with a webcam I've got laying around.

Forget it.

TV/VCR: 25 interlaced frames per second at a resolution of 720 x 576 (PAL) (29.97 frames at 720 x 486 for NTSC)
Webcam: ~20 full (progressive) frames per second at 640 x 480 resolution

The electronics you need to develop to transform those two would be quite bulky and expensive. Apart from that, the CCD's used in webcams are fare from the quality level used for TV (even for NTSC).

Thanks for the very clear answer! Will just buy a $20 dome camera...
