Aeron chairs have been discussed a number of times in previous threads. I'm familiar with the good posture arguments, but what i want to check, considering the huge cost of this item, is how comfortable it is to sit in. Whats healthy isn't always pleasant. So, would you choose to sit in one while watching a three hour football match, or would you choose a softer more conventional chair?

I think it was an Aeron (or similar chair) I sat in at an office I visited once. My god as soon as I sat down I was simply amazed. I remember looking at the guy and saying "WOW this is a nice chair" he replied that they decided to buy cheap desks (some I think were plywood held up on filing cabnets) and spend most of the budget on chairs since that was the piece of furnature they would be noticing the difference in quality the most. I have a HM Eames executive chair and I love it. just spent $275 having it repaired last year. It's worn out with butons falling off and leather cracked and pulling out. The padding in it is broken down too but I wouldn't trade it for anything. It is still very comfortable (best nursing chair I have ever used...but I don't think you are going to need a chair for nursing) and at 30 some years old I'd say it's in good shape. Although I do want to get one of the new ones Aeron or one of the other new models for work. I have yet to meet a piece of HM furnature I haven't liked.

It just seems unusual that sitting on metal for a long time could be comfortable - but should mean a lifetimes use for the price.

THe one I sat in was mesh but I don't rember it as being metal. It remined me more of some sort of man may poly compound space age thing or maybe some of that carbon someting or other. but I could be mistaken. I think it was alos HM forrunner of the Aeron chair. This was 4 years ago were they out 4 years ago?

And also I wouldn't realy say $500-$700 is too high to pay for what will probably be your most used piece of office furnature. A cheap one will runn easily $100 and start showing it's wear in 6 months. I dad baught all new chairs for his work on year and they paid i think 250-350 a piece for them and all o them had some part break with in 1 year. I don't know aboult HM quality now but the one I have last aboult 25 years before needing it's first repair. (1972- 1998). If you spend $700 on one and it last you $10 years that's $70 a year. if that's hard tojustify just think of how many hours your going to sit in that chair and whatis the price of comfort to you?

I'll have to buy something soon, my present seating isn't too good - will report back on experience if its an Aeron purchase.

I have an Aeron which I think is the most comfortable chair I've ever sat on. I can sit for hours on end without discomfort - even with my bad back!

My wife absolutely hates this chair, she has a £39 high backed leather one she loves. I can't sit in it for more than 10 minutes without getting backache.

So, before you spend lots of money, beg or borrow an Aeron for a few days and decide for yourself.

don't some HM dealers have a pretty good return policy? although you would probably pay a couple of hundred more at a place like that.
