I've been following this thread over at the adwords forum:-

[webmasterworld.com...]

Invent a ridiculous keyword "fideladeloopiedoo" to see what Google will charge for it, ask others to try the experiment and report back.

Next thing you know, it's included in the keywords of one site (currently), and somebody registers the name as a domain. The web's a pretty crazy place!

Guess you folks consider me an old fart but I aint so much amused at all. I am the originator of the word fideladeloopiedoo and when I wanted to register the domain today I discovered <someone had registered> the domain 2 days ago. They are now erasing his tracks so that nobody will find their address. Come on, be a good sport and hand me over fideladeloopiedoo!

Just a note, I think the experiment is amazingly enlightening, and thanks for starting it. It never fails to amaze me what a weird place the web is. It seriously wouldn't surprise me to see it as a top paying keyword this time next week (until the bubble bursts).

Not much content on the site, just a question mark and "gone but not forgotten".

No adsense or anything. -Larry

An interesting discussion and, unfortunately for humblebeginnings, a lesson in being prepared for all eventualities.

However, lets keep the discussion on a professional level without specifics please.

Crazy!
I did a search for the said word the first day of the experiment and Google found none.

Today it is a DNS and Google has 915 pages!

Woz: .net, .org, .us, .biz and .tv are available! Go for it!

Thank you, no. I already have enough domains to keep me busy for many a year to come.

"well old fart, when you snooze you lose."

Even if I was sleepwalking, there is no excuse for stealing somethin' that don't belong to you.

By the way, those 915 pages mostly belong to one specific skrapersite. That site is misleading users cause it's not dealing with f. whatsoever.
Yet is has Adsense all over the place.

Well, you can always run it up the ICANN flagpole for cybersquatting.

Did I really just suggest that?

Yo Bill,

Perhaps I should lighten up and go back to work...

Cheers to all of you!

Lighten up?

Why bother, I need more curmudgeon's in my circle of friends as cranky as I am.

Heck, I'd be annoyed too ... but more so if it was a real catch phrase that someone could actually spell.

I like the website design company that put fideladeloopiedoo in the title tag of his index page. I didn't check if it was cloaked or removed but that's definitely classy.
