From here [unitedkeys.com]:

United Keys allows custom icons and other images to display on keytops. Its technology then allows these key displays to change dynamically from application to application. Load a word processing program, and you’ll see one set of images on the display keys. Load a game, and a new set of key images automatically load. Unlike the icons on your toolbar, United Keys display keys also change contextually. Display images can be changing constantly as situations within software applications require. This also can work via the Internet. The display keys can run animations. In this sense, United Keys is providing a universal platform for the industry.

Signed first editions are available for a limited time.

If this puppy's going to be US$299 (pre-order for a US$100 discount!), I hate to think how much the Optimus [artlebedev.com] is going to be!

Question: My Logitech keyboard has no less than 29 "extra" keys. How many do I use?

Answer: One. The key that toggles the Fn key row back to the traditional key-caps.

In theory, having pretty pictures on the keys might encourage people to use Fn keys once again. In practice, I fear it'll require yet another poorly written piece of software to run in the background, and won't actually achieve anything beyond making a keyboard cost more than it needs to.

Most of the extra keys on my Logitech keyboard don't function without the crap that came on the CD. I have a web-cam button, but no web-cam. There's also a "Documents" button, which allegedly opens "My Documents". Let's consider, for a moment, the options now available to me, should I wish to open this particular folder:

Start menu
Quick-launch toolbar
Desktop icon
Tray icon
Keyboard-shortcut
Mouse gesture
Remote control button
Special-but-poorly-labelled-button-that-requires-taking-my-hand-off-the-home-row-or-mouse-and-installing-and-configuring-some-otherwise-useless-software.

Will the madness never end?

I loved my illuminating keyboard. It allowed me to work at night, ...didn't wake a soul. The problem is I had to return it again, for the second time, because of key issues.

To replace it until it comes back from repair, I bought a $9.95 keyboard (which I am typing on right now). This stinkin $9. keyboard WORKS GREAT! It's light, comfortable & quiet...the only thing it doesn't do is "glow".

So in theory, I paid and extra $35 for the glowing lights plus time wasted due to repair & replacement of it's special features.

I guess it all depends what is important. Glowing lights are cool, but for the time & trouble keep an extra cheepo keyboard, just in case.

Get some chrismas lights (tiny ones) and put them inside yourself. I haven't done it myself, but I've heard of people doing it before. There is enough room inside the keyboards.

I think that EL wire would be a better choice as you could embed it below the keys.
