Looking for sources to support the hurricane recovery

Anyone know where we can get the code for banners to send people to the Red Cross Hurricane Relief Fund? I did a bit of looking on their site, but couldn't find anything. I assume they do want some traffic.

Katrina Meta-Missing Persons Search

I don't have the resources or time to pull this off right now (I am not even sure it is possible), however, I was wondering if anyone here on Webmasterworld would be interested in putting together a search service that could search/crawl all of the missing person sites/discussion boards/listings/etc related to hurricane Katrina.

It wouldn't have to be fancy just as up to date as possible. Here are some of the existing sites:

It's worse than you could possibly think... what is going on... The horror stories I've heard from real people are much worse than what the news headlines are presenting.

We are affected in this area of the US, gasoline shortages(not to mention the prices) and homeless people coming from New Orleans to settle in our area. Instead of sending out money... around here, it's literally about helping out your neighbor.

I have a friend down there, in River Ridge, LA just to the west of N.O. proper.
What I would like is some way to see which areas are flooded and which are not.

About all I know is R.R. is officially a few feet above sea level, but the river is probably even higher.

I wish there were some online resource that could estimate damage based on
city and street, or at least on the zip-code level.

Larry, G Maps has made available Katrina satellite images. It looks like about half of that city is flooded, half is not. Hope your friend is ok. The other day I was looking at the very resource you are describing. It may have only been N.O area, not sure. If I can locate it again I'll pass it along.

Not wishing to be pessimistic ..but I seem to remember wasn't it 5 or so hurricanes which came more or less up the same alley last year at 15 day or month or so intervals ..

I remember Liane in particular saw some damage and some others go close by towards the gulf coast ..they are almost sure to be hit again even if it's just by heavy rains before they get even halfway to having basics working in even a small area ...

Best thing IMO would be to evacuate everyone at least 200 miles ( even if it's needed into tents and refugee camps like after disaster in the 3rd world ..they can be redispersed from there to better ) and use the military etc to clean up ..and we still have to expect the "deseases spread" and the "roaming four legged wildlife" that is also gonna get hungry soon ...

This is probably only the beginning of the problems of the survivors in that area ..

It is now very clear, that a lot of people did not leave there home for evacuation centers, because they could not take there pets.

Being a pet owner, I can understand how some people consider their pets welfare, at the same level as people.

One thing that must be done for forced evacuations, is that some evacuation centers, must be setup for pet owners.

This will save countless lives.

Yeah, in order to prevent what's happening right now - they're shooting people's pets. Do not watch this video if you think it may bother you. Because if you think it might, it WILL. There's a New Orleans cop shooting two dogs. Not vicious attack dogs, just regular ol' what looks like labs or lab-mixes.

I hear your President has fired the guy in charge of te relief op, could be a little harsh in light of the fact that its an area the size of England thats been hit.

the size of England..... I find that amazing that means my entire country wiped off the map.

If it's not a really dumb question, why don't they just pull together and help each other?

Can you imagine people in Thailand, Indonesia and the Maldives attacking each other after the Tsunami?

Today ITN (UK) in their main mid-eveing bulletin had their reporter explaining and showing how he had been told to wear a flak jacket by US troops, while he was traveling with them on a boat, because of the sniper fire they been experiencing.
Maybe it's not so exaggerated.

Google has launched a dedicated search for Katrina. This was reported at the Google Blog here - [#*$!.blogspot.com...]

This includes an index restricted to Katrina content and a People Search that searches many people search databases at once. In essence, a meta katrina people search i suppose.
