You know the scenario - you want to call someone, but you don't want them to get your number and start calling you at every hour of the day.

In the UK you just dial 141 before the number and it won't send the ID. Does anyone know how to do it in France? (Or even if they send the number to the guy who answers).

If you are in France and using a fixed telephone ( France telecom ) dial 3651 before the number you are dialing ..this must be repeated on a per call basis ..other fixed line operators prefixes may vary ..but I have never yet had the good fourtune to live in an area that had been de( france telecom )monopolised..:(

In my experience the majority of calls that I received on a fixed phone from the UK didn't show me the callers number ..however that may be because they had blocked caller ID ..

I no longer have a France telecom fixed line ..hence my use of past tense ..but AFAIK the situation /manips haven't changed

Within France all PBX typed lines or grouped switchboard systems do not identify themselves and are presented as caller Id withheld ...

I suspect that to call from the UK to France and to remain anonymous you should use "your" usual UK sequence ..or ask your telephone provider in the UK for advice ...

Caller presentation is not automatic in France neither from France telecom or the other mobile or fixed service operators ..however the service can be purchased at a cost of around 1.5 euros per month over the cost of the line rental ( in the case of France telecom ) and as the others do not charge line rental it is just an extra paid for service ..In my experience most people do pay for it so you may assume that unless you choose to withold ID ..it will be displayed ..

The numbers which one is required to input ( before the number one is calling ) depend on your operator ( if other than France telecom ) if you are using SFR or BOUYGES they are not the same ...

hope this helps ...
