Story here [timesdispatch.com].

Chaos erupted this morning at the Richmond International Raceway as thousands of people stampeded through the gates in a rush to buy used iBook laptop computers for $50 each.

Thousands of Henrico County residents and/or taxpayers stood in a half-mile-long line as dawn broke while others waited in cars parked nearby or milled about not far from the entrance to RIR. One official estimate put the crowd at 5,500. Other observers estimated more than twice that.

The odd part of this story isn't that people lined up for hours, or that they were rude to the police, or even that they they trampled each other. The really odd part is that someone would actually pay $50.00 for a MAC

The news here reported that one woman refused to give up her spot in line despite the fact that she needed to use the bathroom and then ended up "peeing herself" (that was how the reporter said it lol).

Have these people never heard of ebay?

I live in Henrico and had considered going when I first heard about it through a guy at the school board. After it got publicized, though, I passed on it figuring a lot of people would show up. "A lot" was an understatement. I'm glad I didn't bother going.

Thats the wackiest thing I have heard in a while...

I gotta say, if it ever crosses my mind to "pee myself" so I don't lose out on a $50 dollar laptop, I'm going to seriously reconsider my direction in life.
