Since joining the bathrobe workforce I spend a great deal more time with my two girls. They both are too young to do their own hair, so I've had to learn how to do the ponytail thing. I've tried pigtails and ... well lets just say it didn't work, and leave it at that.

So have any of you other dads mastered any other hair styles? Any tips to share?

My daughter has long since left the fold and at my age the only hairstyle I have left to master is the comb over :)

On second thoughts ... I think I'll just grow bald gracefully.

have a look at [combover.com...]

I've got two very little girls and the key is wetting the hair a bit before attempting the pony tail. Also, you must distract them with a toy or book or something while attempting the pony tail or it will never get done...

I can't wait to be a bathrobe warrior!

I've tied many a hemp hair piece, and using different colors, beads or stones they can be nice. Yours may be too young for a hair piece. A simple 3 strand braid works well, held at the bottom with anything from a rubber band to a barrette. There's also some gizmo advertised on TV for young girls and their hair. It looks simple enough for any Dad to master ;) Sorry, I don't recall the product name. You're going to have to watch an afternoon of Nickelodeon yourself for that...

I have a wee girl who likes "ponies" in her hair. You need the really small elastics.

comb her hair into one section at a time and give it a slight twist so it's all gathered into a bunch. holding the hair with one hand, stretch the elastic with the other, pass the elastic over the hair you're holding and over your fingers. Then gently pull the length of hair through the elastic. give the elastic a half-twist to secure it but don't let go.

after twisting the elastic, stretch it out, pass the hair through it again, and give it another 1/2 twist. Do this 2-3 more times the same way with a 1/2 twist after each wrap. eventually the elastic will be tightly wrapped a few times around the pony and won't stretch over it any more.

sounds complicated to explain, but when you do it it's quite easy.
