It's my grandparents 50th wedding anniversary this weekend and I'm having trouble deciding what to get them.

I have considered:

A Painting
Furniture
A Tree/shrub or Something for the Garden

But none of these ideas are that inspired...

Anyone done the same recently? Any Ideas?

Well your running out of time for this but slide shows are nice. Kind of a this is your life thing.

And spending time with them is more valuable then anything you can give them.

A painting or picture of all of their family members, I know that may be alot of people but I'm sure they'd appreciate it.

Speaking from experience I once digitally resurrected a really old and battered picture for a work colleague I got on well with. My friend wanted to enlarge the only (small) picture of her brother who had passed away as a baby and give it as a gift to her elderly mother who still missed him. I took 2 days painstakingly restoring the picture as well as I could and even created a colour version using educated guesses on the colour of clothing.

Having had the two versions printed and framed I gave them to my friend and she broke down in tears and couldn't believe it was possible to do what had been done. I never got to see her mothers reaction but I know from my friends reaction that the pictures would be cherished and worth every bit of effort that I put into them. I'm not an emotional man but I nearly came to tears just recalling the reaction.

So if you want something a bit special then I'd go for a full family portrait/picture and even include the members of the family that have sadly passed away.

Is money much of an object? If not, is there someplace they've wanted to go all their lives, but have never been there yet and probably figure they'll never see? In that case, you could take them out for a nice dinner, and after the meal, present them with a card and a certificate you make ahead of time that "entitles the bearers to one all-expense-paid trip to..." That way, you pretty much get to give them the gift and the surprise on their special day, but still have time for everyone to plan for the trip. I've heard of things like this working out really nicely.

Thanks everyone soem really nice ideas. Have decided to blow-up and mount a photo I took of them 12 years ago on the promendade at whitby.

The Artshop downstairs will do great job on the frame and the image only needs a bit of photoshopping to remove dust and 'warm-up the cheeks'.

Thanks for all the suggestions - If you knew them bungee wouldn't be too far from the mark ;)
