Great result for London bid!

London will host the 2012 Olympics after winning the International Olympic Committee vote in Singapore.

Didn't think we'd get it. Good news! so long after olympics the competition sites do not become money pits like so many before...

Superb news for London and the UK.

Missed the celebratory Red Arrows fly-past!

Characteristically typical of certain age groups in London (can't speak for anywhere else) I've already heard die-hard locals (I'm in central London) bemoaning the fact that council (local) taxes and more will rise substantially over the coming years in order to pay for the Olympics! "Bah humbug. Guess who's gonna to have to pay for that lot then?"

Personally, I shall look forward to a most spectacular event that will amaze the world.

Not convinced about the stadium in your pic, Macguru. The diving boards look way too high.

With my experince with British food, maybe they can still get the French to do the catering for the 2012 Olympics :)

Lol - Frogs legs, Snails and Sparrows or Cottage Pie, Roast Beef and Yorkshire pud - Know which I would have.

Each to their own though.

Congrats to London.

It is about time the Olympics were in my ancestral homeland.

>>With my experince with British food,

Yeah, that is why I suggested to take our stadium. We affectionnatly call it the "giant toilet bowl". :)

Anyone hear the news reader on Radio 2 this afternoon (start of the Steve Wright show)?

Announcer in very neutral tone:

A small group that had collected in the centre of Paris for a party quickly dispersed after the announcement.

Then it began to rain.

Made me chuckle :-) Guess you had to be there...

Congrats London.
