A lady from San Francisco who was in my office in Prague this afternoon said there are loads of programmers without jobs now because of outsourcing in the states.

This true?

I know the technical jobs around here are scarce...
As far as web goes a lot of posting for traditional graphic design and secritarial jobs say something like "some web design experience a plus" it all boils down to price... one thing is for sure those $50/h+ jobs are pretty much gone.

I think a large part of it is the generation that grew up with a PC in their bedrooms are coming of working age and have created a surplus in the workforce. That combined with companies cutting back as much as possible and 0 & 1 not being tangible items seem to be a good starting point for their cutbacks.

On the other side I do have a job interview tomorrow....However I don't hope I will get it. in fact I hope they will turn me down. Funny though the jobs interview I go to not realy caring aboult seem to be the ones that land me with the offer. I wonder if I try to hard ¦¦ maybe I'm just less nurvous.

My programmer is American. And a NASCAR fan. Can get any less foreign than that. Okay, NASCAR is foreign to me, but still...

>> there are loads of programmers without jobs

Maybe in 2001 ...Today there are thousands of jobs opening everyday for people with the right experience and willing to relocate if necessary!.

IMO ,despite all the hype about outsourcing , IT/programming is still one of the best career choice in america!.

Since my hubby and I lost our jobs (our company went under), we've been looking for jobs, and I've discovered that America is LOUSY with software jobs! They are a dime a dozen! And they are all over the place. Now, that doesn't help me in the least since I'm not into software development, but my hubby should be able to find something.

Sure there are a ton of "programmers" out there, but we are having a Dickens of a time finding a GOOD programmer. Maybe all the hacks are making it hard to find really smart people.
