Glare screens for monitors

anyone have any recommendations?

These florescent lights are killing me. I keep the overhead lights off all day here in the office, because with them on, I have a hard time seeing the computer screen. I feel like a mole. :)

So, does anyone have a recommendations for me? I'm willing to try just about anything at this point.

Get a good LCD monitor. That's by far the best way to cut down on glare, you'll be amazed.

2by4, is it really worth the hundreds of dollars to get a good quality LCD instead of some kind of glare screen for a CRT? I've heard that the only way to come close to the image quality of a CRT is the get a higher quality LCD monitor.

I'm getting a new computer in July, so I guess I could spring for a new monitor as well if they're that much better.

Yes, it is absolutely worth it, no question. You can get a decent LCD for about $250 right now, for a 17".

A decent glare protector costs about $100, and they are absolutely horrible, I used to use one, and gave up, it darkened the screen too much.

Search webmasterworld for the topic of lcd monitors, except for a few serious graphics types, or gamers, lcds are fantastic. I switched about 4 months ago after living with eyestrain, glare, burning eyes, etc, for years, and would never go back for any reason. Samsung have good deals at the moment

I am not a fan of spending money on hardware, but when it comes to your eyes, this isn't a very big expense. That glare, coupled with several other unpleasant, and increasingly well documented, problems caused directly by CRTs makes the choice to switch even easier. Plus not having any glare to speak of, and more available screen space. It wasn't until quite recently that you could get a quality lcd monitor for a reasonably price, that has changed now.

I agree about LCD monitors. I'm using a 17" Samsung SyncMaster 712N, and it's really the best I've found. The glare screens that I've seen just make the CRT dimmer and harder to see.

There is a wide range of LCD's, though, in terms of picture quality. Make sure you try it in the store, and find the one that looks best to your eyes.

The SyncMaster series have I think the best contrast ratio and viewing angles of any LCD in that price range, and few higher have better, I think it's like 600 to 1 contrast, and 160-160 viewing angle, decent resolution.

Dell LCD monitors are not bad and not too expensive, I have the LCD 19" and I love it.
I which I could have the 21" wide screen :)
