It's a scam. He's not really going to slaughter him. It's a game. He only wants the $50,000. On the slaughter day, he'll just post a notice saying "I didn't get enough money. Sorry Toby's going to die. Then he'll happily walk away with $60k. Who's to say those figures are correct at the bottom? The recipes are all pushing viewers to donate.

I think the "ransom" is just a red herring (to keep with the fishing metaphors). This is a brilliant and very deliberate attempt to create a hampsterdance/Mahir type viral phenomenon.
I expect a very busy shop. That's quite a range of products he's got.
