As lawsuits and criminal cases against spammers increase, hawkers of everything from drugs to work-at-home schemes are moving to new technologies as they become available. Spammers are already sending text messages to cellular phones, Internet phones and the comment sections of Web logs.

Some say efforts to combat conventional spam have led to the innovation.

Why do people bother spamming?
Whenever I get spam the first thing that happens, after peering at the pornological (that sounds wrong) content, it gets deleted and the sender, blocked.

Two days later I get a message from the same sender but using a different email address. This keeps on happening with the same sender, different address about 10 times. Who would buy those many addresses?

On looking at my junk mail folder, I have about 50 messages, some with the same content.
