A house burglar was caught after a webcam on the owner's computer recorded images of him carrying out the raid.

From the BBC [news.bbc.co.uk] and complete with pics...

Just to show how much of a small world it is:

I work with this guy (the person who was robbed rather than the robber!)...

Nice. I wonder how well it would have worked if the lights were off in the room at the time though.

He should have set it up to text message his mobile phone when the camera turned on and then he could have checked the pics on his website and called the cops to catch him in the act. Then he wouldn't have lost his stuff. :)

If it was that dark then the burglar couldn't see what he was taking - at the end of the day he could of been taking a dell machine God forbid

Some years ago I worked at a company at the IT department. My computer was configured as a dial-in server to do some administration tasks from home. I therefore attached a note to this computer with the text "Do not switch off!".

One day most of the computers were stolen. Only mine was there. Probably the thiefs were affraid that the computer wouldn't work anymore after switching it off. They only took my monitor.

Thiefs have to decide within a few minutes what to take and what to leave. This small note on my computer seemed to be enough to influence their decision...
