Despite an outwardly gruff demeanor and a face out of a '30s gangster flick, Orbach spent 25 years as a star of musical theater, introducing "Try to Remember" in "The Fantasticks," winning a Tony for "Promises, Promises" and reinventing the tormented Julian Marsh character in the mega-hit "42nd Street."He got his film break as a New York cop in "Prince of the City" (1981), though he may be best remembered as Jennifer Grey's buttoned-down father in "Dirty Dancing" - the man who "put Baby in the corner."
