The Balance notebook, armed with a 41.1-inch LCD screen, a 1.0 GHz processor, and 128 MB RAM of memory, comes equipped with the Linux-based operating system Linspire.

Who would want it? An LCD screen that size must weigh 50 pounds...

laptops can be used as desktop replacements too, you know..
smaller footprint should appeal along with $500 tag.. impressive.

Ahh.. it's a 14.1" ;)

How many of us have a lap that size?

If you do, a treadmill might be a better use of your $$$ :)

Wal-mart is carrying a linux laptop. Surely, Redmond must be freezing over right now. ;)

I'd never buy a computer from Walmart.

I'd never buy a computer from Walmart.

But thousands would and they would be right to do so for their needs.

True, this is probably one of the biggest blows to MS in a long time; Walmart selling a laptop equipped with Linux.

Holy cow, I was just pointing out an obvious (and funny) misprint. Y'all are taking this way too serious.

Don't worry, be happy. :)

Note that for $50 more at walmart [walmart.com] you get a much better model with a TFT display and a DVD reader - most importantly a faster real AMD cpu (the $500 model uses a VIA cpu and carefully leaves out the term TFT from all descriptions).

Also note you get windows for the $50 more. I wonder how many people will shoot themselves in the foot for only a $50 savings.

Part of how they are making them this cheap is the battery is junk.
I read somewhere its like a one hour of real use battery.
