see [cnn.com...]

This is not a surprise to me, I always thought that the more music people listened to, the better it would be for musicians. I have been to more concerts in the last 2 years than the previous ten... why.... because there are more concerts at a reasonable ticket price. These rich rock stars have to continue their stream of income to pay for the lavish lifestyle and countless ex-wives, so they will hit the road to maintain the income level they are used to.
Although it is bad for record companies, especially now that they have had to cut prices (yipee!). But because of downloading, I listen to a wider variety of music.

So.... do you listen to more music? Do you listen to different genre's of music because of downloading?

I don't download music to listen to. I'm a "buy it" sort of person, and don't find the prices for cds all that outrageous anyway.

And besides, on dialup, I WOULDN'T download stuff like that. I have enough problems downloading the important stuff - you know, program updates etc. Even if I had broadband, I still wouldn't download music, movies, etc. though.... just not "me"....

Oh, don't get me wrong. I still buy as much music as I ever did. But the price of cd's is down dramatically where I live.
Examples:
-I saw the new U2 cd for 13.99 Canadian. This cd would have started at the 20 dollar range five years ago. It is clearly priced to move and discourage the downloading. Good move, because I will be purchasing it in the next couple of days.
-I bought the brand new Aerosmith dvd last week for 19.99, it included a live cd as well. So two disc's for 20 bucks.

At the end of the day if I want to support an artist I enjoy I will go to a concert- buying an album gives them a whole 3 cents or so, big deal. I have only ever bought myself 2 albums and I bought them because I like the case :)
