So, just what is SPAM anyway?

Apparently the lines of demarcation are becoming even more confused. However, according to this article [news.com.com], moves are being made to slice through the confusion.

The ads will feature an array of "typical" British characters--including builders, campers and pantomime actors--all enjoying spam.

But not vikings? Or Long John Silver impersonators?

BTW, why do people keep spelling "spam" in upper case? Am I missing something here?

Generally, I've seen "spam" used to refer to the internet scourge, and "SPAM" used to refer to the canned meat product.

I think it's because SPAM is supposedly an acronym for "SPiced hAM"... or something of the sort.

Personally, I think they should do one showing wild haggises (haggi?) touting SPAM as an ideal dinner meat... much the same as commercials I've seen here that show anthropomorphized turkeys touting ham as a perfect holiday meal.

Let one scary meat product promote another!

The spam sketch [noteboom.demon.nl].

Memory was, of course, playing me tricks. There were no Long John Silver impersonators in it. Just vikings.

SPAM = Severely Primitive Animalistic Mutant

[I have that on good authority from my dad.... who loved the original version....]
