The Internet's first baby steps began in Leonard Kleinrock's UCLA lab 35 years ago today.

In celebration we've cranked up our Commodore 64's and we are communicating at 300 baud - all ascii - all weekend.

Remember all those cool tricks we did with ascii that made the text print forward then erase and change colors... now that was pure webmaster talent at it's best.

Yeah it wasn't until I got my first modem equipped computer and was able to login to StrangeWays BBS (in Manchester I believe) that I realized my dreams I had when I got my first Dragon 32 were actually becoming possible. That all seems so long ago now....

<added>Wow, I didn't know some of that old stuff that you can still dig up with the right search, seeing some very old posts of mine from way back when.....

I had a Dragon 32 too!
I can probably still hack out a bit of Dragon Basic.

10 Print "What is your name?"
20 Input A$
30 Print "Your name is..."
40 Print A$
50 End

How about that? I haven't done that for about eighteen years.

Never had a modem though.
Still, I thought the movie Wargames was very exciting.

The plan was for UCLA to send the letters "L-O-G" and for SRI to answer back with "I-N."

Reports would later show that instead of the "I-N." reply, Mr. Kleinrock received a message pre-approving his morgage online, along with a fantastic deal on Cialis.

Happy Birthday!

Sly.
