You can customize your character CJ (Carl Johnson) by getting haircuts, tatoos, new clothes, and hairstyles. You can also eat now, too. If you eat too much, he gets slow and fat, and too little he gets skinny and weak. You can workout, get better at things like shooting, running and bike riding and learn martial arts at various dojos. You can even learn boxing!
So far I've played basketball, gone a a four person drive-by, broke into a few houses and looted them, and tons of other stuff. You can also skydive, play various casino games (like poker, slots, etc.), play pool and place wagers on the games you play like a hustler, etc.
The graphics are better, the effects are much improved and the radio announces what weather to expect.
Voices in the game include Samuel L Jackson, Chris Penn, David Cross (from Mr. Show), Charlie Murphy, and James Woods.
I don't want top ruin the surprises so far (and I'm less than 10 hours into the game!) The things I listed consists of just a FRACTION of the game I've experienced so far.
I'm over 30, and it's seriously the best video game I've ever played in my life.
I know this may sound like I'm exaggerating, but Vice City pales in comparison. Put it this way, I know two avid GameCube loyalists that are buying PS2s tonight just for San Andreas. (Right now, it's only available exclusively for the PS2.)
Here's a web site for one of the fast food chains located throughout San Andreas...

And some others from both San Andreas and GTA3...

Yep... spoilers, sound system, paint jobs, nitro to go faster in races or just whenever, also interiors.
You can jump over fences and such. The new battle system is adapted right from Rockstar's Manhunter title, except that you get better at fighting, kung-fu, whatever because of the mild RPG elements involved with the main character.
You can also pilot jets, swim (sorely missing from the previous titles), grab a parachute and jump off the building you get it at, or get this... steal a plane with the parachute on and jump out in mid-flight.
Graphitti, basketball (yep!), a camera to take pictures whenever you want, and a 2 Player co-op mode.
A 2 Player co-op mode.
A 2 Player co-op mode.
Felt it was worth repeating. :)
Characters from the last two GTAs also show up.
I never knew that the single word description for a man in a pink and purple suit with a feathered hat and cane is considered profanity.
Related phrases you may want to censor should include "James Brown", "Snoop Dog", and "Dennis Rodman".
Fashizzle.
I especially like the stats that you need to manage. I was always hoping for some way to increase the character stamina for running faster and longer. The gym idea is great.
I saw a screenshot of the skydiving mission - I'm pumped to try that out. =)
I noticed Will Wheaton, Andy Dick, Debbie Mazar and a few other actors in the credits as well as the others I listed in my first post.
Rockstar's really raised the bar on production values and have pretty much pushed the PS2 as far as it can possibly go with this one.
The idea of a PS3 GTA makes me shiver.
Also true to the PC statement above. The PS2 is starting to show it's age, but this game definitely pushes it to the limit.
Personally, I think all non-PS2 owners are being haters.
I'll take the mind-boggling depth of gameplay in GTA:SA over something as "graphically enhanced" as HALO any day. I mean, seriously, I've played Sa for over 25 hours now and new game elements are still being introduced (like taking over rival gang territory). It's like the game suddenly adds a whole other layer to it every once in a while. I still can't beleive that they pulled this off in less than two years development time.
Besides, if you play PC (like I mostly do)... games like HALO aren't really anything new. Just a pretty first person shooter with a few cool 2 player hooks to it. It's like the "lite beer" version of Half-Life, Tribes, and Unreal.
