Let's leave him alone and look at this objectively.

In a poll of foreign journalists in my Sunday paper yesterday 9 out of ten thought that the referee's decision was correct. But then maybe they are ALL wrong?

The only one who thought that he was right was Davie Moyes, the Everton manager (a Scot!)

"Football" and "Objective" surely don't mix :-)

A certain country's team bows out of a soccer tournament and it's all the ref's fault. At the same time the rugby team loses and it's all the ref's fault.

There's a lot to said for being gracious in defeat wouldn't you say?

It seems that Meier has the backing of UEFA [euro2004.com].

<---- And now I think I will visit our Directory forum to see if there are some webmasters expressing their self pity for not receiving the degree of respect that ODP owe them. ---->

As you would expect.

The reaction from the English media was completely over the top as usual. These guys just cannot be objective because their whole aim in life is to stir the s***!

There was some interference with the goalkeeper, of that there is no doubt. The only question was whether or not it constituted a foul but since goalkeepers always get the benefit of the doubt no one should be surprised that the "goal" was disallowed.

If the situation had occurred at the other end of the park the same English media people would be proclaiming that it was definitely a free kick :o)

"At the same time the rugby team loses and it's all the ref's fault."

How can a 51 - 15 loss be the ref's fault? With that scoreline, I don't think the players should be looking too far for blame - the closest mirror should be far enough!

Here is one more [euro2004.com] who did not think that losing a match was enough but insisted on losing his dignity too.

Correct! And I think that he should have got more than a two match ban. Referees must be protected from the infantile rantings of these "superstars". As a neutral I don't remember the referee being anything other than excellent in this match.
