Need advice study overseas or stay at work

Hi everbody!

I have a really big decision to make, sort of a life changing one… Looking for someone who maybe, has gone through it or has some good advice.

Well here it is, I have been working in the web world for about 2 years now, and finally I have found a job that pays well and I can learn from. Living a good life.
I am 23 and this job pays well, and it has taken a lot of time and sacrifices to get were I am to today. At the moment I am studying my BSC in Info Tech and management.

I also just got a Scholarship to study in India, with everything paid for. The scholarship is to study application programming which seems interesting.

The scholarship and an opportunity of a life time and to travel to India with everything paid for.

There is my dilemma.

Please if there is anybody out there who can give me some advice….

It's your decision, and so many factors may count, factors that only you know. But from what you tell I would say take that scholarship. (It might be an idea to ask your boss for advice.)

What have you got to lose.Travel the world whilst youre young and its paid for seems a good idea.
Get some experience of other cultures before you settle down and have all those family ties.
What are you waiting for.Book the ticket now.
There will always be a job for you back home afterwards if you need it.
I have travelled and never regretted it.

Travel while you can...you can always find a job. Once you get the family and settle down it can be tougher to be mobile or spontaneous.

The only think is that I have worked so hard to get were I am today, I guess I am just afraid that all my hard work will go to waste.

It is amazing! , when life throughs things at you, good or bad, it throughs them at the same time.

How will you feel if you don't go? You want to wonder about that for the rest of your life?

I'm 35 and I can promise you one thing only - you'll never be 23 again.

I had to face a similar situation.
Just think about it. You can do a job anytime, any day in your life. Will you get a full scholarship and a free trip to South Asia just as you might find a job? In the other side, education always comes first. The knowledge gained could only help you. You could get hundreds of better, and well paid jobs once you've done.

It's your call pal! Wish you all the best in whatever you may choose!

Mavrick, remember that you may expect to grow as a person if you take that jump. Exposing yourself to a very different culture is an opportunity for personal development. And you will be able to develop your personal network while studying. I doubt that losing your job should be a very important concern for you.

But as said before it is your decision and many factors may count. May you make the best choice.

Travel now before the world catches up to you. :) I traveled alot when I was younger. Even started a huge fight with my parents because I dropped out of school to do so. I never regreted a moment of it. You can not imagine how much travel opens the mind up. There will always be a job waiting to be had. But as spouse, kids, mortgage, car payments and about a million other things you gather as you get older take hold, it becomes harder and harder to take oppotunities like this one.

Seize the opportunity and go to India.
Your hard work and experience to date will not go to waste - you'll still have it when you finish studying and you'll have seen and achieved more in the meantime than you might have done if you stayed home.

It's not really something you can regret. Could you seriously see somebody going 'dang, I wish I hadn't discovered another culture, took up too much of my time'?

I vote for travel. The time I've spent in other countries has been amazing - I have many friends (many of whom are an extended family now) all over the world now and it's a great feeling.

You'll be working for the rest of your life. Go now. Learn. Study. Enjoy. Grow. Get scared. Take challenges.

A scholarship like this is too good to pass up.

It's a no-brainer maverick - you must go.

Take it from us oldies - you won't be 23 again.

And opportunities like that just get harder and harder to make happen the older you get.

Ditto. Take it and go! You won't lose the experience you have. You'll get more education. You'll get to see an interesting country. It's all plus, plus, plus. You can always get a job later. The extra education and experience will help.

I'm thinking of packing up and moving to Europe to go to grad school. Everyone says to do it. I agree-- now's the time, when I'm young, when i don't have any kids or pets or a house to keep me here.
Worry about jobs later. More experience makes you more interesting to employers. And it gives you more confidence. I delayed college by a year to go study in Scotland. It wasn't that much fun, really, but I learned a lot about the things that weren't in the classroom, and it's given me great confidence in dealing with other situations. "This isn't so hard-- I've dealt with scarier things, farther from home!" It's much harder to faze me now.

So, diversity of experience is a worthy goal.

I'm lucky enough now to have a job that allows me to travel, but that's no guaranteed thing to find. You may find later that you can travel for work, but travelling for school or for fun leaves you a lot more free to just enjoy the experience while you're there.

I've never met anyone who regretted travelling to study, or travelling for fun, but I've met a lot of people who regretted NOT travelling before they got "tied down" with committments in life...

One more question if u guys don't mind.

I know that India is a great place to study, especially in the IT field.

What are the prospects after studying there?

Don't want to seem ungrateful for the opportunity. But I have to know!
