We have just started playing softball. We have just about got the hang of the rules, however stats are a bit of a mystery, really because we can't find any info on how to calculate them. We are building a asp/sql website to show the stats but need to know how to calculate them, any pointers for a easy to understand guide?

If you want any rules help, I am a nationally certified softball umpire here in Australia. We base our rules off the Internationa Softball Federation rule book.

Are you talking slow pitch or fast pitch?

It is slow pitch. THe only rule I don't understand is stopping at the bases instead of being able to tag athem and run past. It could really tweak a muscle.

Thanks for the stats help, have sorted it all out now. Nice bit of SQL code. Thank god for databases!

I am a fastpitch umpire.

In fastpitch you can run past the base at first base without liability to be put out.

However, the other bases (2nd and 3rd) you have to stay on the base. In fastpitch, that is why runners will slide or pop-slide. A pop-slide is where you use the base to slide into and "pop" up into a standing position.

Whilst it can tweak a muscle, that is part of the rules of the game.
