The percentage of people accessing the Web through a high-speed connection goes down as income level decreases, according to recent findings from Nielsen/NetRatings

Really?

What's next months survey, "Is the size of your house/type of car you drive related to income level?"

Sometimes these things work in non-intuitive ways.

For example, during the early 1980s in Britain, the areas of the country where the video rental market expanded fastest were the areas of highest unemployment. Makes sense (men at home, nothing to do, spend the time watching films on video), but the story might equally have been people in richer areas being more able to afford to buy video players (VCRs).

You have to look to find out.

In a not so rencent local study, 37 % of local active population had non permanent contractual jobs. I believe an important part of this work is done from home.

I think free lancers weights in these stats, their work requires the speed and their income can be lower than what the average used to be.

<biting lip>I could make a bitter political remark about this situation, but WebmasterWorld's foo isn't the place for it.</biting lip>
