Fierce Spyware

this one has me stumped...

When I open a new browser window - sometimes a pop-up will come up. It redirects to adfarm.somethingorotherplex.com?4343=dfsw (you get the idea) and displays some crap that I don't want to see (usually the homepage of a large auction site - thanks, that's bound to get me using your service).

The thing is - I've run adaware and spybot s&d and both have failed to eliminate the problem... I can't work it out and I can't find any running process which could be responsible for this.

Anybody have any ideas?

Update: looks like belgiandip has also gotten on there somehow...

After an hour long battle I found the culprits... Hiding in a hosts file. Begone spyware and damn all who create you!

I think I had the same problem, were the pop-ups the ones with invisible borders and no obvious way to close them?

It would have been annoying, but it only affecte IE, which I run maybe once every coupla days, so I was able to mostly ignore it for a few weeks until I got around to running an analyses with HijackThis!

Help! I have this stupid Belgiandip thing on my computer too. I cannot get rid of it. I've run HijackThis, but I don't know what to delete. You say you found it in a "host" file? What does that mean, and how do I get rid of it before I go insane? :)
